Catching up...

Okay so I know I have lots to catch up on, but man things have been intensely scary and crazy busy.  My brother, Seth, was incredibly sick this last week and a half or so.  Well, to be precise, since I was about four hours away from home on my drive back from Texas a week ago on Sunday.  (And of course Brooke had the flu too, so that added extra fun to the drive!)

Anyway, I digress.  I started getting phone calls on Sunday afternoon as I was driving.  Seth had been taken by ambulance to the local hospital and needed to be transported to a bigger and better equipped hospital in Sioux City.  He spent several days in ICU because his organs were essentially shutting down and they were all affected - liver and kidneys were the worst but issues with his lungs, heart, and pancreas were also present.  Scary enough!!  Well, as he started to improve, they moved him out of ICU and he seemed to be making progress.  Once he was stable, the VA required him to be transferred to their hospital in Sioux Falls (at least an hour and half longer drive for me!  Sigh!) but he really did seem to be doing better.  We thought he would be released this weekend but they decided to keep him until Monday (yesterday) which meant a lot of time that I was driving and/or sitting in the hospital and the remaining time I was wishing that I was sitting at the hospital with him!  :)  They determined that he was having seizures so they wanted to do a CT scan before he left and thank goodness they did.  While conducting the scan, they saw something abnormal and did a more intense scan and found an aneurism!!  Talk about a scary word, right?!  Unfortunately the surgery required to fix said aneurism is very risky in and of itself, not to mention for a kid (and yes, he's still a kid to me!) with health issues and on blood thinners for perpetual blood clots.  So, they will do another scan in about a month to determine if it is growing.  If it is, they will need to do surgery.  If not, they will continue to monitor him.

So yeah, totally scary week!  It's been an emotional rollercoaster and I spent much of the time very scared that I would lose my brother.  I'm grateful he seems to be doing so well but still don't like this aneurism thing!

Continued prayers are appreciated and I will do my best to slow down and be better at posting now that he is back home.  And, even better, he gets to spend Thanksgiving with me!  I won't have Brookie and that's tough enough, so I'm super grateful that 1. he is doing better and 2. that he and his daughter (for at least a few hours) will be around to keep me company!
